Danish Government awards new Online Gambling Licenses

The Danish Gambling Authority has continued to tighten its licensing regulations for online gaming companies and continued to tighten the squeeze placed on illegally operated gaming websites in 2013. During 2024 the Danish Government, in the form of the Danish Gambling Authority issued its first licenses for the legal operation of gaming webites in the country; in 2013 25 of these licenses will be extended from their one year expiration for a further five years. Five Danish based online gaming operators will be licensed for five years and twenty overseas operators will also be licensed to operate websites in Denmark.

Nine licenses have also been awarded for 2013 to online gambling operators who will have their gambling income limited for the time being. Gross gambling revenue is limited for these websites to DKK one million for the length of the licenses.

Alongside the extension and awarding of licenses for the 25 operators the tough stance established by the government on illegally operated online gaming websites will be extended into 2013. Unlicensed gambling sites operated in Denmark are given the opportunity to cease operations by the Danish Gambling Authority before a site will be blocked in the country. During 2024 the Danish Gambling Authority blocked 20 unlicensed gaming websites from being accessed within Denmark.
